Christians United for Physical Change

I

In I Corinthians 6:19-20, the apostle Paul says: “Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body.” One of the ways we can honor God with our bodies is by taking care of them.  This includes eating right and exercising.  When our bodies are well taken care of and treated with respect it becomes easier to be spiritually disciplined and maintain a positive, spiritual, healthy lifestyle.  In this life, the body and spirit are made to work together.

We are giving our CUPC initials a new meaning.  For one year, beginning in September, interested persons can participate in Christians United for Physical Change.  Whether it is to lose weight, or meet dietary guidelines and goals set by a physician, or for some other reasons, we all have things related to diet and exercise that we can work on.

As a group we will share with each other our suggestions and ideas for healthier lifestyles, as well as encourage other members along the way (and receive encouragement when we need it).  Throughout the year, we will share recipes and exercise ideas, not only within the group, but with the congregation as well.  We will share tools to track personal progress in whatever individual’s goals may be.  We will have group exercise sessions for those that choose to participate.  Each participant can decide which tools and information best suits their needs in attaining their personal goals.

The group will meet on Tuesdays at 6:30 p.m. and though weekly attendance is encouraged, it is not mandatory.  However, all interested individuals should join us on Tuesday, September 2 at 6:30 for an informational meeting and to find out about an exciting group activity for the following week.

READY FOR CHANGE

We are excited about taking the step to start making changes to our life styles!  We are anticipating LOTS of changes over the next year, so therefore, we want to document as we go along.  By this time next year we are going to look back and “see” all the changes.

We want to get a group photo of all the participants along with a group weigh-in.  On Tuesday, September 9, we will meet at the church at 6:15pm (or meet at the scales at 6:30) and then travel to Carlisle to use the scales at the elevator to get a weight as a group.   The group photo will also take place there.  We will repeat this process a couple more times during the year so we can “see” our progress.

At our weekly meetings, we will provide a private room for weighing and will be available to help with individual measurements.   We will also be taking individual photos at this time.  We encourage everyone to keep a daily journal.  We will have several types to look at or you can choose your own style.  We will be sharing some ideas about the importance of water in your daily routine. We encourage everyone to drink at least 64 oz daily.

We know that not just one food menu will work for all of us, so we will have a few different ideas about this to help you figure out the best one for you to use.  We will also be discussing any forms of exercising that some may want to participate in.

Please be advised that the first and second meeting may run longer than we anticipate the future ones to last.

Are you ready for change??
