OPERATION CARE
Rev. Theron (Tom) Conrey (former pastor of Community United Presbyterian
Church in Hartford, Iowa) is currently serving as a military chaplain at
Al Asad Air Base in Iraq. In his capacity, Tom has had the opportunity
to visit other bases—one with a hospital in Afghanistan. This hospital
is opened to villagers a few times a week. Those who normally come are
women with their children to be treated for various illnesses and
sometimes are they are even hospitalized.
As the villagers leave the base, they are given items that have been
donated by various groups in the United States. Most of these items
come from churches. Although there are no references to Christianity,

Why?
to help our sister congregation:

Many learned in the Des Moines Register
that Cottage Grove Church may need to close its doors due to severe
funding problems. Since each congregation depends solely on its members
to underwrite the finances of the church, and since Cottage Grove’s
members are among the poorest in our Presbytery, it makes for an almost
impossible situation.
But they try and
try hard.
Many in their church family are Christians
from the Sudan who fled religious persecution and are trying to begin a
new life in a new country – not an easy task.
It seems
they need a little help from their friends.
