For your consideration……..

The Session asks that you please consider paying your “per capita” for 2008.  The amount for each active member is $27.00 and goes to provide budget funding at the Presbytery, Synod, and General Assembly levels sponsoring the many programs and ministries of the Presbyterian Church, USA.

If you wish to make a contribution, please note “per capita” on your check or envelope.

Thank you for your consideration!

The Pentecost Offering is traditionally received on the day of Pentecost (May 11, 2008). It provides a direct way to meet the needs of children at risk, youth, and young adults. Congregations are encouraged to keep 40 percent of the Offering to support ministry with children at risk in their communities.

The General Assembly’s portion (60 percent) provides leadership development opportunities for Presbyterian youth and young adults and supports children-at-risk programs at the national level. Since 1998, Presbyterians of all ages have raised over $7 million for these ministries that benefit younger members of God’s family.

Nursery Provided

The nursery is available during the Sunday worship service for children up to 4 years old.

If you would like to use this service, please contact Madonna Jack or one of the ushers for assistance.

The Power of God

Spring Youth Retreat

for 6th – 12th Graders

On April 4th and 5th Westminster Presbyterian Church in Des Moines, Iowa hosted 50 youth and 15 adults for the Des Moines Presbytery’s Spring Youth retreat.  CUPC was represented by 14 youth and 4 adults for a great time of fun and fellowship.  Shannah even joined us on Saturday to lead us in games and energizers!

The theme was The Power of God with three sub-themes:  A Question of Time, The Power of Community, and The Power of Life Everlasting.  Movie clips from Indiana Jones, Tomb Raiders and Atlantis: The Lost Empire were viewed and media clips were used for our program.  We were able to get creative with crafts, praise with music, renew our faith with communion and of course share meals with our friends.

A highlight of the weekend was when Dave Walker bussed all of us to Tokens for 4 hours of laser tag, glow in the dark mini golf, and just plain fun!  Thank you, Dave and Debbie!

We came home tired, filled to the brim with faith, and excited to see our friends again next year!

Thank you, CUPC, for supporting your youth and their leaders!

The Weaver
                                   by Benjamin Malacia Franklin
                                           (Originally titled, "Just a Weaver")

My life is just a weaving
Between my Lord and me.
I cannot change the color
For He works most steadily.

Oft times He weaves the sorrow
And I in foolish pride
Forget He sees the upper
And I the underside.

Until the loom is silent
And the shuttle cease to fly,
Will God roll back the canvas
And
explain the reason why.

The dark threads are as needful
In the skillful Weaver's Hand
As the golden threads of silver
He has patterned in His Plan.
